While Pennsylvania's gifted education regulations limit your focus to your gifted child, advocating for your gifted child does
not have to be lonely. Here are some group s:
Statewide and National: Pennsylvania Association for Gifted Education (PAGE)
is the state NAGC affiliate. Statewide, PAGE offers resources primarily for educators. A general service
is PAGEList is a moderated email-based service which allows both members and non-members to ask certain questions about
or comment on gifted education. The answers to the most frequently asked questions on PAGEList are covered on this website.
Pennsylvanians for the Education of Gifted Students (PEGS) is a statewide gifted advocacy group that focuses on helping GIEP
Team members effectively perform their roles. PEGS offers advocacy support and information. PEGS also works extensively
in legislative advocacy.
Regional and Local: PAGE has local chapters with varying degrees of involvement
and expertise. Please check their website to see if a PAGE Affiliate is in your district. If not, consider forming your
own affiliate.
Remember, while groups can try to change regulations or policies for the benefit of all gifted students, during
a Gifted IEP meeting your advocacy efforts are limited by regulation to meeting the needs of your child.
