The Gifted IEP is the work product of the Gifted IEP team. Once you approve it, the GIEP becomes the central controlling
document for your child's education. The GIEP's contents are vitally important to how your child will progress through
their education. Your ability to participate in meetings and advocate for your child is affected by what you approve.
The
Gifted IEP has four sections. They are:
1) Present Levels of Educational Performance (PLEP) - This section must be updated every
year. It describes the student's current level of educational performance using objective measurements. This must go beyond
PSSA scores and report card grades.
2) Goals: These must be unique (or at least applicable) to your child
3)
Short Term Learning Outcomes: This section describes the benchmarks or progress indicators that show that the student had the
resources needed to achieve the goals.
4) Specially Designed Instruction: This section is used to modify instructional
methods or allow specific accommodations for the gifted student.
